Gray Sky: Victoria Bushfires
Imagery collected for bushfires
Significant bushfires broke out in Victoria in early January, escalating rapidly under extreme heat and wind and spreading across the landscape. As of today, more than 500 structures have been damaged or destroyed across the state and more than 400,000 hectares (roughly 4,000+ square kilometers) have burned. Widespread damage has been felt across agriculture, livestock, and infrastructures.
Vexcel’s Gray Sky team activated to begin collecting the destruction within days of the outbreak and received clearance to collect starting on January 13, 2026. A few of the first images from this collection are shared below to showcase the devastation many communities are suffering through. Ortho, oblique, and multispectral images are available to view. Our Gray Sky team is still monitoring the area and has plans to complete another pass of an impacted area on January 14.
Our thoughts and wishes of support are with the community impacted by these devastating fires. Our Gray Sky program is meant to provide the visualisation so needed after major disasters such as wildfires, tornadoes, and hurricanes.
