Published from four directions at a 45-degree angle and 7.5cm resolution, oblique imagery reveals facades, windows, electric poles, and other features top-down imagery can’t see. Q: What kinds of objects can Custom Elements detect?
Any object that is visually distinct in Vexcel aerial imagery. If it has a recognizable shape or appearance in ortho or oblique, Custom Elements can find it. Our team works with you to scope and configure each detection.
Q: How do I tell Custom Elements what to find?
Simply name the object. Type “sand trap,” “grain silo,” or “red car” and Vexcel’s Custom Elements finds every instance across selected imagery. You can also start from a custom-drawn geo-fence or a list of target locations. No labeling or annotating required.
Q: How does oblique imagery improve detection?
Vexcel now performs AI object detection on oblique aerial imagery. Side-view imagery collected from four cardinal directions at 7.5cm resolution. Unlike top-down ortho imagery, oblique imagery captures objects at a 45-degree angle, revealing building facades, vertical structures, vehicle sides, and objects that are invisible from directly above. Elements: Custom is the first Vexcel product to bring object detection to oblique imagery, adding a new dimension to what can be found in Vexcel’s aerial imagery program.
Q: How is Custom Elements different from other Elements products?
Our other Elements products use AI and machine learning to deliver predefined, benchmarked, and validated data layers built for specific markets like roofing, transportation, and insurance. Custom Elements is open-ended and offers endless capabilities to expand what these industries and others can look for. You name the object. We find it. Plus: It also allows us to expand object detection across our entire imagery collection in 45+ countries and territories.
Q: What does Custom Elements return?
Custom Elements returns a segmentation outline of each detected object and a confidence score. For example, if you find “boats,” it returns the polygon of each detected boat and a confidence score. It does not classify, categorize, or assess condition (e.g: speed boat in poor condition). If you need benchmarked attributes on a specific object type, our other Elements products may be a better fit.
