Illinois is the bustling midwestern “Prairie State”, known for its farmland, wetlands, forests, and rolling hills. But it also hosts one of the largest cities in the U.S., Chicago, on the shores of Lake Michigan, where famous skyscrapers as the Willis Tower and Tribune Tower frame the skyline. In fact, Chicago’s population is almost 15 times larger than the next largest cities of Aurora, Joliet, Naperville, and Rockford. Vexcel’s aerial imagery helps you see it all in high resolution, from one side of the state to the other.

Orthomosaic Imagery
Access to detailed, top-down views helps you see areas at wide scale across less populated areas or even in rich definition in densely populated metro areas like Chicago. Wide Area Ortho is collected across the state at a resolution of 15cm. TrueOrtho is a finely calibrated view of urban areas at 7.5cm resolution with no building lean (parallax) or visible seamlines. And new Urban Ortho provides an additional view of urban areas at 7.5cm resolution for move views in more places.
Oblique Imagery
Shift your view with high-resolution Oblique imagery and take a virtual tour around all four sides of a home, building, or area. Improve your inspection or asset monitoring by identifying concerns or issues that wouldn’t normally be visible with a straight down viewpoint. Get greater context of a landscape using detailed Oblique imagery.
Elevate
Elevate depicts 3D height information of the earth in high-spatial resolution across both urban and rural areas in Illinois. Created during Vexcel’s aerial captures, customers get a real pixel-to-height data match with other Vexcel aerial products. The result: A perfect spatial alignment between elevation data and imagery for a more consistent and trusted accurate output.
Multispectral Imagery
Using its market-leading UltraCam sensors, Vexcel collects a near-infrared color band while capturing aerial imagery of urban and rural areas across Illinois. This wider color spectrum-invisible to the human eye-makes it easier to identify living and non-living objects. This type of data is ideal for classifying areas at risk for wildfire, or when reviewing areas post-disaster to quickly determine what vegetation is still living and what has been destroyed.
Disaster Imagery
Illinois can occasionally see disasters like tornadoes. Depending on the severity and impact of a tornado, Vexcel captures, processes, and delivers disaster imagery typically within a 24-hour timeframe following completion of aircraft collection. Providing rapid access to post-catastrophe imagery results in improved responses for emergency managers and insurers. This imagery also helps government agencies understand the full picture of the impacted areas and track progress as communities rebuild.
Elements
Our Elements product suite features AI-derived datasets designed to inventory and track changes, all extracted from Vexcel’s high-resolution aerial imagery.
In Illinois, Vexcel offers vectorized datasets for buildings, properties, and roadways to integrate into your GIS workflows.
For example, we have building footprint and roof details for more than 5.4 million structures identified in our ortho imagery for the Prairie State.
