Collecting More Imagery in Europe in 2025
We’re a little into May and already our aerial imagery collection in Europe has been delivering views upon views for our customers. We’ve even completed collecting the entirety of Ireland!
Our imagery helps provide that next level of detail when lower resolution satellite or smaller scale drone imagery just won’t do. And our aerial imagery collection in Europe is the largest of its kind in terms of consistency and resolution within each country but also across countries. The advantage of our collection comes from delivering imagery that has the same specs and same consistency across country collections, helping with greater accuracy in output of AI applications, more reliability in evaluating ground truth, and offering detail that matters.
There’s so much to be seen in Europe with multiple countries, a variety of landscapes, and the challenge of keeping things consistent between country collections, whether it’s across Germany, France, Spain, the UK, or wherever. It’s a never-ending balance to be maintained. But we do it all–and deliver coverage across multiple countries (in 40+ countries around the world)–on a repeatable scale, year after year.
What Our 2025 Europe Collection Plan Looks Like
In terms of planned collection for the year, our team is focused on two collection programs in Europe: Wide Area and Urban Area Prime. Our Wide Area imagery is published at 15cm and is collected across urban and rural areas. Urban Area Prime is focused on more highly populated metro areas and published at 7.5cm. Between the two collections, end users get access to 7 different products: TrueOrtho, Ortho, Oblique, Multispectral, DSM, DTM, and Elements (automated property information). In addition, we have ready-made 3D models in several large European cities using our high-resolution image, known as 3D Cities.
2025 Planned Collection:
- Wide Area planned collection: up to 750,000 km²
- Urban Area Prime planned collection: up to 80,000 km²
- Total population covered: roughly 224 million
- The collections will cover both rural and urban areas. And roughly 550 cities will be collected with a population of 50,000 or more. *
One interesting note: we are adding 180+ new areas to our library which has an existing footprint of 2.2 million km². Between new areas and refreshed collections for which we have several years of historical imagery, our customers will enjoy a growing European library of aerial data to help support their projects. We’re partnering with local fliers, too, to deliver imagery for the following countries planned for our 2025 collection: Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
Powerful Imagery, Details that Matter
We know access to imagery is only part of the equation for GIS professionals or other project managers; the other part is knowing you’re getting the right information out of the imagery. At Vexcel, our commitment to quality is second-to-none and we match our imagery against professional-grade ground control points so our products have a pixel-to-data match across multiple products and derivatives. You’re getting imagery with the highest consistency, accuracy, and reliability possible, ready for your projects wherever you choose to create them.
With more imagery and views being delivered for our European collection, customers are able to tap into a ready resource of highly valuable data to map out 5G networks across multiple countries, monitor and maintain utilities assets in urban and rural areas, and deliver trusted HD maps for communities large and small.
