Wildfire season has been raging across the Western U.S. and in California, the Trabuco Canyon – Airport Fire exploded on September 9, 2024. It consumed over 23,500 acres across parts of Orange County and Riverside County with evacuation orders for thousands. Our Gray Sky team kept monitoring the situation and it became clear that activation for collecting this wildfire was necessary as nearly 200 structures had been destroyed or damaged by this event.
On Wednesday, September 18, the Gray Sky team was in full activation mode and collected high-resolution ortho and multispectral imagery over the areas where major damage had occurred. Imagery was processed and quickly turned around and made available to our members so they could proactively begin reaching out to those impacted by these devastating fires.
Below are a handful of images from the collection:
The GIC also has before images of the properties impacted by the wildfire. These help with before and after comparisons, showcasing the level of damage suffered by residents in these communities. In addition, Damage Assessment is available to help GIC members remotely review property damage so they can triage and begin the claims process to help those in greatest need. You can see an example below of a property with a primary and secondary building on the parcel and analytics run that show the impact from the fire. Most often with wildfires, properties are a total loss with a CAT score of 100 and approximate FEMA score of 6/6.
